Not too many DJ’s are keen enough to use a theme from a book as the basis for a mixtape. But, DJ BLAK was able to incorporate freelance writer and African American history enthusiast, Ronda Racha Penrice’s eloquently titled book African American History For Dummies and do what no other DJ has done.
With Hip-Hop Intellectual Michael Eric Dyson on the intro, we are immediately inducted into a conscious mind frame. A brevy of tracks from hip-hop scholars of consciousness such as Styles P (I’m Black), Nas (I Can), and Tupac (Keep Your Head Up) are just a few of the tracklisting.
